You must be wondering why I am writing a story about a dress, well for one it is not just an ordinary dress it has sentimental value made by a very talented designer and friend, Michele Sison.
My daughter Angia was looking for a gown to wear for the wedding of one of our closest friend’s Gigi & Billy Daniels’ daughter Ally Javier to Bench Cruz. The requirement for the guests was to wear earth toned colors. We went to the mall to find something she liked but came home empty handed. So the next best thing was to look at her Mom’s closet and alas there was a treasure throve of gowns from some of the top designers in the Philippines and abroad to choose from, dating back from 1995 to the present,
Angia found the dress she wanted to wear along with a number of clothes Michele made for Ayen in 2000 and 2001. I called up Michele and asked if we can meet her at her home since we are neighbors and made a request if she can take a look at the clothes and see if she can re-work them or make some adjustments.
The gown Angia chose to wear was literally a vintage gown made for Ayen in 2001, a year before she was born. According to Michele it was made of Indian silk and it is now hard to find fabrics like that in Manila.
When Angia tried it on, it fit her so well that Michele only made some minor adjustments to make sure the fit was perfect. The funny thing is Ayen never got to wear the gown cause she soon got pregnant with Angia when she decided to wear it back in 2002.
In a way the dress has come full circle, cause now Angia got to wear it and looked amazing in it. We can’t wait to see what Michele will do with the other dresses and gowns Ayen gave to Angia.
Check out Angia’s original composition “Honeycomb”, she continues to blow my mind! Proud of you my baby!
