Raise Your Glass to the first Filipino Knight

How often do you get the chance to meet an actual Knight? I can proudly say I know one in the person of Jewelmer Group Chairman Manuel M. Cojuangco. I am truly honored to have been invited to an intimate celebration at the Grand Sunset Pavilion, Sofitel Philippine Plaza last July 27, 2017 where he was conferred the Chevalier dans l’Ordre National de la Légion d’ Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honor) by the President of the Republic of France officiated by H.E. Mr. Thierry Mathou, Ambassador of France to the Philippines and in Micronesia.

Mr. Cojuangco is the 19^th Filipino to be inducted into the l’Ordre National de la Légion d’ Honneur the highest distinction awarded by the French Government since its establishment in 1802 by Napoleon Bonapart.

It was truly a proud moment not only for Mr. Cojuangco and his family but to the whole Jewelmer family and the country. As he gave his speech, he could not help but get emotional specially when he talked about his parents, Mr. Cojuangco shares “whose personal journey, upon reflection, carried the potential of whatever good my siblings and I were meant to pursue. And tonight is especially significant because their relationship started not in the Philippines, but in Paris where they accidentally but fortuitously met.”

The celebration continued with the Circus Band and New Minstrels performing to the classic hits of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Everyone got into the groove of things that even Mr. Cojuangco jammed with the band belting out OPM Disco songs!

It was truly a night to remember! Thank you to my Jewelmer family for making me a part of this very special occasion!
