KAAYO, which means kindness and good is one of the brands that jumpstarted the movement for contemporary Filipino fashion.
Established in 2017, Marga Montemayor Nograles (who is my cousin from the Laurel side) and her mother Tita Baby Montemayor integrated their passion for fashion and their resources to give a fresh perspective in the fashion industry by offering unique pieces that highlights the weaving tradition of the T’Boli of Lake Sebu in South Cotabato, the Bagobo-Tagabawa tribe who lives in the outskirts of Mt. Apo, Mindanao designers, and local sewers from Mindanao offering everything Mindanaoan.
My wife Ayen is a fan of the brand and has worn their pieces in the teleserye Sino Ang May Sala, Mea Culpa in ABS-CBN where she plays the role of Senator Matilda Montelibano.
Ayen wanted to wear everything Philippine made and sought out the help of Marga who generously provided some of her outfits for the show.
KAAYO, which used to be available in pop-up stores, bazaars and online shopping via their Instagram account has now opened its first store at SM Aura Premier.
You can now try on and get KAAYO’s most popular pieces such as the Marga Top, the Katarina Jacket, fully hand-beaded T’boli jackets and the famous Tangkulo scarf that comes in different colors. Go and visit KAAYO at the ground floor of SM Aura.
