What Happens When You Get A “No”

It is not easy when you hear the word “NO” especially when you are expecting an affirmative answer.  We have all experienced rejection at some point in our life.  I have gone through my share of rejections professionally and in my personal life. I did not know how to properly respond to it when I was younger, I ended up comparing myself to others or just being upset and beaten. Instead of looking at what I had, I was looking at what the others had and what they were getting. I had that mentality, “The grass is always greener on the other side” . It took me years to snap out of it and start working on what was in my hands.  You see God created us to be unique and not be a mere copycat of someone else.  As the years went by instead of focusing on what others had and being miserable because I did not have what they had, my wife Ayen told me “focus on what you have”, “bloom where you are planted”. As what Oprah Winfrey would say I had an “AHA” moment.

I had to first and foremost go to the core of it all, which is to truly have a personal relationship with God.  I had to silence myself to be able to hear Him.

In this wild and crazy world where social media is literally at the grasp of our hands and the fast paced life we all lead can be overwhelming, I had to quiet myself to make sure I get a clear direction on what God wants me to do.  Often times when we get a “No” we respond to it in a negative way, but I have come to realize that when you get a “No”, it is God’s way of telling you “Not Yet”, “Not Now”, or “I have something better for you”.

God always has the best for us and He will always give it in His perfect time.

When you get a “No”, may mean that you are not ready physically, mentally or emotionally.  I have seen it time and time again, when God blesses you, He will open the floodgates of heaven and you will just simply be amazed with what God can do. There are only two ways to respond to His “Yes” and “No” it is with humility and gratitude.  It is to put your full trust in Him.  Remember you can never outdo God.  His way will always be the only way.  Why will you tire yourself by doing it your way when you can simply rely on His guidance, remember the fastest way to go from point A to point B is through a straight line. Disobedience will only prolong your journey. But even when you find yourself going off roads, He will always lead you back to the right direction.

The reason why I am sharing with you this is to encourage you to live your best life now. When He blesses you it is not just for you but He blesses you so that you can be a blessing to others as well.  As a family man, I yearn to live the best version of me so that I can be an effective husband to my wife and father to my children.

Let me encourage you with these two verses.

Romans 12:2

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

John 15:7

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
