The year was 1995 and I was in Manila on vacation from my studies in Tokyo when I got a call for a casting for a TVC, I went to the production house and did my VTR. I was with a bunch of commercial models and I said to myself if I got this then it would be great but if I didn’t, it would have been a bummer but the experience of trying out for a TVC was fun. At the time I didn’t know what it was about all I knew was it had something to do with food.
A few days later I got a call and was told I got the job and found out it was for Burger Machine. Now for those who are not familiar with Burger Machine, it is an iconic brand that had been a part of my childhood to adolescent life. It was our go-to-place for the super yummy and affordable Bart Burger and the crispy and sweet Sans Rival sold in food carts located in almost every corner of Metro Manila.
I was over the moon with excitement as I entered the production house where the TVC was shot. I had to pinch myself cause if I am not mistaken I was going to be in the first TVC of Burger Machine. It was then that I met our director Joey Agbayani, my leading lady Wing Chanco (who looked great even after eating all those burgers during the shoot) and the rest of the cast led by Paul Morales who eventually became the Artistic Director of Ballet Philippines. The experience was pure joy and extremely fun with our retro styled costumes and hairstyles, depicting the party scene of the 90’s.
What made the TVC extra special was the song “Tikman” by the Eraserheads, one of the most iconic bands of the 90’s. It was played all through out the shoot and by the time we were done it was embedded in my memory.
I have to thank Junie Rodriguez, the creative mind behind Burger Machine, his mom Tita Fe and their whole family for giving me the chance to be a part of something that has made an impact in local TVC’s. The opportunity given to me to be apart of this milestone gave me my first break in getting into showbiz cause a year later after graduating from KEIO University, I came home and entered the industry that has been my home and life for the last 22 years.
I have been looking for this particular TVC for years and when it was posted on Facebook a few weeks ago, I couldn’t help but shout with glee. Here it is! Enjoy and reminisce on the Burger Machine TVC featuring the song Tikmanby the Eraserheads.

The re-emergence of the TVC came just in time as Resorts World Manila, through Full House Theater Company, will be staging an all-original theater production, Ang Huling El Bimbo, a story of friendship told through the songs of the Eraserheads. The show will run from July 20 – September 2. Tickets are available on Ticketworld.
